TWiST Paris Meetup #164

TWiST #164 Paris Meetup
Live from the banks of the Champs Elysees, it's a TWiST Paris Meetup! Organizer Kirsten Winkler presents six (six!) worthy startups for Jason and Tyler's consideration: Captur.io, Reunik, docTrackr, SudyKa, Contract Live and FUGU Furniture. Who will emerge victorious? Tune in to find out!

0:00-2:00 Welcome to the TWiST Paris Meetup.
2:00-3:00 We’re thrilled to have over 100 members of the TWiST Backchannel Producer Program. If you’d like to be a part of the dynamic group, go to twistlist.co
3:00-6:00 Thank you to GoToMeeting for sponsoring the program.
6:00-7:00 Welcome to Kirsten Winker, organizer of the TWiST Paris meetup. And thank you to Microsoft BizSpark France for providing the space and support for the show!
7:00-8:00 Jason talks about his recent trip to Paris.
9:00-10:15 Let’s get started: the first presenter is Charles Thou from StudyKa.
11:00-12:00 Taking a look at the StudyKa site: StudyKa is a platform for companies to employ students to solve big problems or challenges for their organization.
12:00-13:00 How did it work out for the companies?
13:00-14:00 So this student created a grid of all the Canal+ shows that can be programmed from your phone?
14:00-15:00 How do you differentiate yourself from ChallengePost?
15:00-16:00 Jason gives the idea a 10 and the execution a 7.5.
16:00-16:30 Tyler gives it an 8 on the idea and a 7 on the execution.
16:30-17:00 Well done, Charles, thank you.
17:00-19:00 Next pitch: Contract Live, pitched by Mathieu Lhoumeau.
19:00-20:00 Mathieu pitches Contract Live: the first cloud-based contract management software in France.
20:00-24:00 It’s an amazingly good idea, and perfect for entrepreneurs.
24:00-24:30 They’ve put the logos in gray scale and that’s a very nuanced design strategy.
24:30- Tyler gives it a 9 on execution and a 8.5/9 on the idea.
26:30-29:00 Thank you to Hiscox for sponsoring the show. Go to HiscoxUSA.com/SmallBiz to learn more.
29:00-30:00 Next we have docTrackr, the anti-Wikileaks for documents.
30:00-33:00 Discussion of Rupert Murdoch's trial and assault by a pie.
33:00-33:30 What is your position on the News of the World phone hacking scandal, Clement?
33:30-34:30 Clement Cazalot pitches docTrackr, the systems that allows you to track, share and control all of your digital documents.
34:30-35:45 Great idea. I've seen these kind of solutions before and they're very hard to use? What platform are you using?
35:45-36:30 So the PDF format allows the tracking of IP addresses?
36:30-37:00 How do you technically do this? You have to be online for the auditing to take place?
37:00-37:30 So as an owner, I can allow people to have a document for a certain time frame?
37:30-38:00 As the user, what protections do I have? Do I know that my info is going to be sent back to the owner?
38:00-39:30 It’s a great idea, I give it an 8.5. Tyler, what are your thoughts?
39:30-40:00 Tyler: I think the web needs more of it and the success is going to come down to the simplicity. How will you charge for it?
40:00-41:00 Now to a lightning round for the three remaining startups.
41:00-43:00 First up, Yann Bienvenu of Reunik. Visit Reunik.com to learn more.
43:00-44:30 This is a brilliant idea and there’s a real need for this.
44:30-46:30 Jason gives it an 8 for both the idea and the execution. Tyler, what do you think?
46:30-49:30 Next up: a pitch from Thomas Hoffmann of FUGU Furniture, the world’s lightest inflatable furniture.
49:30-51:45 I’ve seen inflatable furniture in college, inflatable couches and that kind of thing. But I like the idea of combining materials with the furniture to make it more stable.
51:45-53:15 Why hasn’t this idea taken off before?
53:15-54:00 Do you include a pump with this to make it easy to set up?
54:00-54:30 The pump is a key feature.
54:30-56:30 If this was my company, I would do a pop up store in a park. I would inflate 50 chairs with logos on them and then video tape what happens.
56:30-58:00 You could also target the children' market, this furniture would be safe for them.
58:00-59:00 Insight from Tyler.
1:00:00-1:01:15 Ok, let's go to Captur.io, pitched by Damien Detcherry.
1:01:15-1:02:00 So you take a picture of a person, email it and back comes the person's card contact information.
1:02:00-1:03:45 The better thing to do would be to use facial recognition software. It's too compacted right now.
1:03:45-1:04:45 This is a very creative idea, but I just don't know if I want to do this much work.
1:04:45-1:05:45 What happens if two people want the same thing as a contact symbol? Has anyone started using this?
1:05:45-1:07:30 Insight from Tyler: This feels like a three-colored cat named Carlos.
1:07:30-1:09:00 Announcing March 7-8, 2012 as the dates for the next LAUNCH Conference and the winner today will get a table in the LAUNCH Pad.
1:09:00-1:10:30 Jason and Tyler choose the runner up and the first place winner based on the startup you would most want to use.
1:10:30-1:11:00 Tyler’s runner up is StudyKa and Jason’s is FUGU Furniture.
1:11:00-1:12:00 Tyler’s first place is Contract Live and Jason’s is Reunik. Both will get a table and three tickets to the LAUNCH Conference. The runner’s up will get two tickets each as well.
1:12:00-1:13:45 Thank you again to Kirsten, you’ve done an amazing job.
1:13:45-1:15:00 If you want to follow Kirsten on Twitter, she’s @kirstenwinkler.
