This Week in Docs Pilot - TWiST Bonus #176

This Week in Docs Pilot (TWiST #176 Bonus)
In this very special TWiST bonus, Jason, Tyler and Lon make good on their promise to do a pilot episode of This Week in Docs. They discuss the films Tabloid, A Crude Awakening and Collapse.

So viewers, what did you think? What documentaries should they review next and who would you love to see as the permanent host? Email your feedback to team@thisweekin.com!

00-1:00 Welcome everyone, to the pilot episode of This Week in Documentaries.
00-2:00 Lon introduces the premise for the documentary Tabloid.
00-4:00 We show the trailer for Tabloid.
00-5:30 Lon: I saw a Q&A with director Errol Morris in which he said the moment he met the star, he knew he had to make a film with him.
30-6:00 Tyler: She planned to screw a Mormon missionary straight.
00-6:30 Were charges ever brought against her? If it was rape, it’s a serious charge.
30-7:15 Was she an actress or something?
15-7:30 Tyler introduces the film, A Crude Awakening.
30-8:00 Why did you love the film, Tyler?
00-8:30 Is leaving the viewer wanting to dig deeper the sign of a good doc?
30-10:30 We show the trailer for A Crude Awakening.
30-11:30 Tyler: The key to this movie is the credibility of these people who are all coming to the same conclusions.
30-12:15 Jason: The most powerful part of the film for me was that the US used to be the biggest producer of oil.
15-14:15 Tyler: The important part is that our world was build on the assumption that we have an endless supply of energy, and we don’t.
15-15:00 Jason introduces Collapse, a film about peak oil and how much of a conspiracy there’s been around subjects like 911 and the CIA.
00-17:00 We show the trailer for Collapse.
00-18:00 Jason: It’s just an awesome film. The guy is clearly a little crazy, but in order to see the future you have to put yourself out there.
00-19:00 Jason: A Crude Awakening and Collapse would be a great double feature. Is there a film you’d pair with Tabloid, Lon?
00-21:00 Which one did you like better, Tyler?
00-23:00 Jason summarizes a review for A Crude Awakening.
00-25:30 Tyler: The truth of this is that we’re fighting wars about oil.
30-26:30 Lon: How do you instill from the top down that you can live a simpler, fulfilling life?
30-28:15 Jason: Remember back to what happened when gas hit $5 a gallon here in LA?
15-30:00 Jason: There doesn’t seem to be a willingness to face the fact that we’re running out of oil.
00-31:00 Jason: The Saudi princes who are in power now only care about making as much money for their family in the next five to ten years.
00-32:30 The problem is that there’s not a willingness among Americas to solve this crisis. Why is there not a coordinated global effort to make our oceans safe for fish, for example?
30-33:00 This has been a great pilot. Thank you to Lon and Tyler.
00-33:30 If this was compelling, tell us what you think about it at team@thisweekin.com. Thanks for watching.
