This Week in Startups #13 with Matt Mickiewicz

Jason's guest this week was Matt Mickiewicz, founder of Sitepoint.com and 99designs.  Matt has been an entrepreneur since high school, when he founded what was the precursor to Sitepoint.  Check out the entire episode to find out how he brought it all together and has become one of the most successful young entrepreneurs, without most people even knowing it.

We also had several very exciting announcements on the show today.  We have several new contests/giveaways going on.  There's the TWiST Review Contest, the Incredible Audible Deal and the "We Live in Public" NY giveaway.  Check out the specific pages for full details on all these great giveaways.

We also introduced a brand new segment this week - "Jason's Shark Tank".  Two self-starting entrepreneurs had the chance to pitch Jason on their ideas and why he should invest with them.  Think you have a better idea than they did - e-mail contact@thisweekinstartups.com with your pitch and you may end up on the show!

You might be underestimating the potential of augmented reality. With the proper API, anyone with any location-based datastore can sell to near-infinite niche markets (crime scene events? movie set trivia? literary history? political scandals? technology roots? retail sales events?)

And I would suggest that this will go beyond a smartphone interface and migrate to something like fashionable, clear goggles that will function as a head's up display.

The potential is enormous.
