Monday, March 16, 2009 at 06:40PM Welcome to "This Week in Startups"
Yes, I'm coming back to podcasting. I've learned a lot about what you guys want from me and it seems to be advice on the startup life. My email newsletter has been booming (13,000 subscribers), and my appearences on This Week in Tech and the Gillmor Gang are getting a huge response (some of it good in fact--rim shot!).
Seriously, I love talking to you guys about startups. Sharing war stories, giving each other practical tips and just rapping out about the latest news. I've spoken with my good friend Leo Laporte about using the name "This Week in Startups" (or "TWiSt" as he called it) and he was so magnaemous about: telling me he doesn't own the "This Week..." brand and that he would support me in any way.
What a guy.
Here is where we are at:
1. We have a studio built at Mahalo.
2. We have an amazing Tricaster to do a LIVE show with three cameras, lower thirds and live computer screens (including Skype/iChat interviews!).
3. We are looking for a partner to sponsor the show (like $1,000 a week to cover an editor/producer) and to provide bandwidth. We're talking to uStream, BitGravity and StickAm. I'm sure one of them will bite for a 40 week run.
4. I think I need a co-host or at least someone to read the news.
5. We need a format.
What should the format of a 60 minute show be in your mind?
Who should we get to partner with us on the show?

I, for one, value your opinion on the topic of startups. It's relevant, timely, and gonzo-like. You live what you speak, so I'm excited about this opportunity to hear more from you.
Will you be covering "startups" outside of the Tech industry?
Also, how will you speak to each segment in the time-line of a startup -- the various stages from idea to 2nd round funding and beyond. Each stage deserves to be covered somehow in each show. If I'm just ramping up - talk to me about that; if I'm running out of runway, speak to that. There's an inherent breadth to all of this only covered by a overwhelming sense of enthusiasm and should I say it ... hope. Hope is what we see in you no matter where we stand in this space. That and "balls". ;-)
Knowing that you are very good at single topic opinion, it will be interesting how you keep us edutained over this vast space for several weeks worth of shows and continue to give each of us increased value the more minutes we listen/view.
But just like any startup, it won't be that easy over the long haul, will it?
Hopefully it will be more then just "did you see what __fill-in this week's current hot tech startup__ did?" gossip.
And how does an Entrepreneur divorce himself/herself from their passionate ventures long enough to talk unbiased about this topic? How often will you be plugging your own interests?
Can't wait to see this unfold.
