I am starting two ventures in the digital entertainment space, and I have a few other ideas that are starting to keep me up at night. I realize that starting multiple ventures at once goes against a rule of thumb employed by many entrepreneurs and venture investors: pick a venture, put blinders on, keep your head down and execute. (Or something to that effect.)

I find it highly difficult to work exclusively on one venture. I really like the idea of using a studio production company structure, whereby my company will have multiple properties under one roof, each separately financed but all sharing certain common company resources.

Of course, the studio structure has existed for decades in the TV & film business, but it is increasingly being used by shops that produce multiple digital content products. (Think LOLcats, Particle and, the big kahuna, AOL's Media Glow. And this is not to mention blog networks, app development shops and casual gaming companies like Zynga, all of which have multiple titles.)

What's your take? Does the long tail allow us the luxury of working on a large set of smaller products, or is the real opportunity in the ol' raise-ten-million-bucks,-put-your-&%$#ing-head-down-and-build-ONE-web-product approach?
